Sea Surface Temperature Anomalies

Global maps of sea surface temperature anomalies for the month of January 2011. Such maps allow scientists to monitor global climate change as well as manage the population of marine species and ecosystems particularly sensitive to fluctuations in water temperature. The data consists of 6745 anomalies sampled at various points across the globe by drifting floats of the Argo fleet.

Forests

Forests

Density maps of trees across the globe for the year 2016. Tree density maps are used in environmental sciences to monitor deforestation and illegal logging, as well as assess the amount of vegetal photosynthesis. The data consists of tree counts recorded by NASA’s Aqua and Terra satellites.

Fires

Wildfires

Density maps of wildfires across the globe for the year 2016. Wildfire maps allow scientists to better understand atmospheric chemistry and its impact on climate. The data consists of tree counts recorded by NASA’s Aqua and Terra satellites.

Stars

Celestial Maps

Full-sky intensity maps at 857 GHz. Such maps display the intensity (or equivalently the temperature) of every astronomical radio source across the sky. The data consists of 768 simulated scans, obtained by a 9 meters-wide dish antenna observing 120 point sources.

Moon

Moon's Surface

Global distribution map of Thorium (Th) on the surface of the Moon. Abundance of Thorium (Th) reveals past magmatic activity and differentiation, allowing scientists to retrace the Moon’s geologic history. The data consists in 377'367 geolocalised gamma ray counts, obtained by orbital gamma-ray spectroscopy (GRS) and recorded over a period of approximately six months by the Lunar Prospector probe on its lowest orbit.
